Going Green, Then Going Dark

As skyline icons from the Eiffel Tower to Sydney Harbor and the Vegas Strip went dark across the world for Earth Hour on March 29, our glittering skyline joined in this global statement for sustainability, as the rather unearthly photo of Times Square and the Empire State Building below, shows.

The crown jewel of Park Avenue, 230 Park, (left) put a punctuation point on its environmental statement for the cause by lighting up bright emerald green, and then going dark as the clock struck 8:30 p.m.

BOMA/NY is proud to be a supporter of this global movement, which this year not only scored its greatest number of participants to date, it won the endorsement of its first superhero–Spiderman.

The comic book hero/movie superstar has been central to attracting wide-scale participation among the world's youth, and underscores that the impossible can be achieved. The movement that started as a simple lights-out observance in Sydney, Australia has now spearheaded thousands of green programs that run year round, worldwide. Programs emphasize real-life goal-setting and range from water reclamation to sustainable food harvesting, innovative use of replenishable energy sources and more. For more information on this impactful movement, go to www.earthhour.org.

Mercy Home Honorees

BOMA/NY has a proud tradition of having many of its members being honored by the Mercy Home, and this year is no exception.

Join us in saluting Susan and Joseph Ferdinando, being honored as Partners in Mercy, and Brian Horan and Daniel Rice, for their role as Friends in Mercy. Information on this year’s Partners in Mercy Luncheon, being held this month, can be found at http://www.mercyhomeny.org/special_events.html.

The home, founded by the Sisters of Mercy order in 1862, works tirelessly through a full range of programs to help children with disabilities gain skills for fuller, richer, lives.

In Memoriam

OOPS....

Apologies to Pinnacle sponsor Automated Control Logic. The company, which designs and installs facility automation systems for both equipment and management systems, was incorrectly identified in the Pinnacle Award Ceremony Guide page featuring 2 Penn Plaza. The correct name is as shown above.
