New York City is best known for its fresh, clean and delicious drinking water, and 1 billion gallons of it each day are delivered by the NYC watershed to the taps of nine million customers. Operated and maintained by the City’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the watershed consists of 19 reservoirs, three controlled lakes and 2,000 square miles of watershed that are among the safest worldwide for public consumption.
Once again, you can get all the facts about one of the most complex water systems in the world from the DEP’s 2013 Annual Water Supply and Quality Report. It will provide you with information on water quality and testing, and details on what gets put into the water--NYC is one of only five US cities with water quality so exceptional that filtration is not required!
Access it at http://www.nyc.gov/html/dep/pdf/wsstate13.pdf. If you have questions or want a paper copy mailed to you, you can call a DEP rep at 311. Share this link with your tenants, take advantage of the report’s property management tools, and learn more about the most important thing you take in--water, it’s the wellspring of life!
