It may have been the dog days of summer, but school was in full swing in August at BOMA/NY and continues this fall with the schedule of courses. Details on both are below.

This past August we welcomed a new professor leading the very vital and timely course on Environmental Health & Safety Issues. James Durrah, MPA, the Health Services Manager of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, taught the accelerated version of this RPA-, FMA- and SMA-mandated course. The far ranging curriculum cover everything from OSHA and EPA regulations to indoor air quality, storage tanks and how to manage hazardous waste and PCBs. The collaboration with Mr. Durrah represents another dimension of BOMA/NY’s growing relationship with the Department, which has worked with the Association most recently on combating and preventing Legionella, and maintaining water tank safety.

The course is also being offered this fall as part of the regular curriculum, as is LEED GA prep.

BOMA/NY’s Fall Semester gets underway officially on September 12. The curriculum includes the following:

•  The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems Parts I and II
     (two courses, mandatory for the RPA and FMA)
•  Law & Risk Management (RPA mandatory)
•  Budgeting & Accounting (RPA mandatory)
•  Environmental Health & Safety Issues (RPA/FMA/SMA mandatory)
•  Leasing & Marketing for Property Managers (RPA elective)
