Q: How did you first hear about BOMA New York?
I first heard about BOMA New York when I was a Senior Associate at a previous firm. Senior Management wanted us to get involved with BOMA New York for the educational and networking opportunities BOMA provides.
Q: What was it about BOMA New York that kept you there or kept you involved?
For me, it was the knowledge of the committee I participated in. The Preparedness Committee is renowned for their communication skills between all the different emergency management entities: the FBI, NYPD, FDNY, OEM and Homeland Security. We have 25-30 people in a group where we get to strategize, discuss, and prepare for possible and current events that take place in the city.
Q: Are you involved in any other committees?
I am a BOMA New York Board Member.
Q: What does a day-to-day life look like for someone on the board?
The board’s job is to guide and plan BOMA New York’s future. We make decisions on membership, review association financials, make decisions regarding the website, events and initiatives etc. We are the panel of real estate professionals who are determining BOMA New York’s future path.
Q: Is there anything in BOMA New York’s future you are particularly excited about or any initiative your excited to work on?
I am excited to see the release of the new website and see if we meet our future long-range planning goals. We have also been spending a lot of time getting the future generation involved in BOMA. We’re looking into making BOMA New York more user friendly with apps, different types of seminars, luncheons and hope to launch other initiatives to strengthen and grow the BOMA New York population.
Q: Is there a particular reason why involving the younger generation is important to you?
It’s important to keep everyone involved. We need to leverage the knowledge of our older members and engage more with our younger members. Supporting our younger members helps to keep the ball rolling and support the longevity of the association.
Q: What inspires and motivates you?
That’s a good question. Motivation for me is being successful and providing for my family. I chose my career because I enjoy working in the real estate business and I enjoy a lot of what I do. Besides the monthly reporting, every day is a new day and you never know what you’re going to get into, so that keeps me excited.
As someone once told me, property management is a common-sense business. As you get older you learn more of the fundamentals of engineering and architecture, but for the most part you’re a problem solver and a customer service representative.
