How long have you been a BOMA New York member and how did you first get involved with the Association?
I’ve been involved with BOMA New York since early 2000. I’ve always been dedicated to my continued education and was attracted to the BOMI RPA classes offered by BOMA NY. From the educational element of BOMA New York, I was able to also leverage the multiple networking opportunities and ultimately learn about their strong advocacy work.
What are some of your responsibilities as a member of BOMA New York’s Board of Directors?
We review, discuss and provide feedback with regards to local laws, ordinances and other commercial real estate related topics. I hope to also use my experience to help develop classes that are relevant to owning and managing a commercial building in 2020 and beyond.
Are you part of any BOMA New York committees? If so, please explain which committee and your role?
I am part of the Pinnacle Awards committee. It’s the event of the year, with massive planning coordination. Specifically, I help with aligning the signature event and its honorees with the ideal corporate sponsors.
Do you think being a member of BOMA New York has influenced your career? If so, how and is there anyone specific to thank?
BOMA New York has facilitated the success of my career in many ways. Starting from professional access to the Lunch & Learns and broader exposure to classes that relate to the CRE industry. I’d like to thank Gerard Davidson for motivating me to pursue a career in operations. I must also thank Mark Windt for training me. Both of whom are strong industry advocates and members of BOMA New York.
You’ve been managing all aspects of commercial office buildings for nearly 20-years for some great companies. Today, what’s your biggest challenge and how are you solving it?
I think the most challenging part of what we do is people and relationship management. Meeting everyone’s needs in our ever evolving and challenging times can prove to be difficult. I adapt myself to the needs of others and make sure I am as accommodating as possible. I am also a strong believer that living by defined timelines is essential for everyone’s success.
You currently work for Rockhill Management, with a portfolio spread throughout New York, Boston, San Francisco, South Florida and Washington, D.C. Which market is innovating and pushing new trends to propel the CRE industry?
Every market is unique and has interesting trends. New York City has some of the most fascinating dynamics and can sometimes be challenging, yet equally rewarding. Each market keeps us on our toes.
If you could give advice to someone starting out in the commercial real estate industry, what would you share with them?
My advice is to always stay current with what is happening in the real estate industry. Ask a lot of questions and be open to change. Most important, don’t limit yourself and always aim high!
When you’re not working, what do you enjoy doing with your spare time?
Spending time with family is most important to me.
What’s your favorite movie?
