Dear Members:
I am writing this message just after celebrating our annual Holiday Luncheon at the Ziegfeld Theatre. I’m happy to report that the annual event sold-out and set a new record for attendance. The genuine exuberance in the room was felt wall-to-wall. After a festive cocktail hour chock-full with friends, we celebrated eighteen growing professionals that received a BOMA New York Scholarship to obtain their BOMI designations in 2023. We also honored Hamilton-Madison House with the Civic Betterment Award. Located in the Lower East Side, Hamilton-Madison House is a voluntary, non-profit group dedicated to improving the quality of life of its neighborhood and encourages the sharing of resources and responsibilities through the active participation of every segment of the community.
As I near the end of my first year of being Chair of BOMA New York, I would like to thank you for this opportunity. It has been an honor to represent the commercial real estate industry and a privilege to work with so many longtime and new friends. I am proud to say that 2022 netted many positive highlights. The following are a few of my favorites:
- We produced seminars and educational opportunities that included topics such as ESG, emergency preparedness, carbon neutrality, wellness, building data management, automation, and more.
- We received an exclusive inside look of Rockefeller Center, Brooklyn Navy Yard, One WTC, One Vanderbilt, One Manhattan West, 390 Madison, Empire State Building, and Google.
- We produced another record breaking Pinnacles at Pier 60, with a legendary acceptance speech by Larry Silverstein for receiving the Henry J. Muller Achievement Award.
- We hosted two epic golf events.
- We launched a Proptech Committee.
- We honored the 240th anniversary of the inception of the Purple Heart Award.
- We hired a new Executive Director, Lori Raphael.
As we look forward to 2023, I am confident that my fellow committee and board members, as well as the staff will stay true to our mission with a commitment to excellence and consistent delivery of great content and engaging opportunities. A few things to look forward to include the first annual Proptech Conference & Expo on June 21st; a new website; and a new industry newsletter.
I wish each of you, your companies, and your families a beautiful holiday season and a very happy new year!
Sincerely,
Matt Duthie
