When he opened the Pinnacle Awards Ceremony this past February, BOMA/NY President Ed Fallon said there’s nothing like "putting yourself and your team to the test and knowing that on this one night, you're the best." Then he challenged our members to do just that by competing for a Pinnacle Award.
This year a record 30 nominees are vying for our industry's top honor the evening of February 9, 2011, and information on being part of this one-of-a-kind evening will be in your email soon.
What it takes to be a winner
The Pinnacles are the top award in our industry, but they’re no beauty contest or easy ride—as much subjectivity has been weeded out as possible through a rigorous set of rules that are some of the toughest for any professional award.
Buildings don’t compete on their appearance or their famous name, but how well they operate in these six judging sections: Community Impact, Tenant Relations, Energy Management, Environmental and Regulatory Compliance, Emergency Preparedness and Training for Building Personnel. They compete by submitting a 30-40 page written binder with photographs, charts and required documentation; think of it as all your operations and the best of your operations between two covers. Once that's been reviewed, the Pinnacle judges visit the nominated building for an inspection/interview that can last a half day and involves the entire building team.
The submission binder is worth 80% of the score and the judging inspection/interviews are worth 20%.
Putting themselves to the test
If it sounds daunting, it can be. But as they say at the Oscars, it’s an honor just to be nominated. When it comes to the Pinnacles, now dubbed the "Oscars of the real estate industry," making it through the nomination process is a major accomplishment in itself—many building managers credit it with making them a better professional.
