New LEED Credentials Exam

The USGBC recently announced that the change to the "new" LEED Professional Credential Exams for the LEED Green Associate and LEED AP with specialty designations, went into effect June 15. There will then be a two-week break, with the new exams beginning on June 30.

In addition to changing the exam content, the USGBC also announced an update in the LEED exam eligibility requirements. Currently, candidates are required to have experience working on a LEED-registered project within the last three years to be eligible to take the LEED AP exam.

Starting June 30, this eligibility requirement will be removed. Instead, candidates will be tested on applicable LEED project skills, such as using LEED Online, USGBC's online resource for managing and submitting LEED project documentation.

What you need to know:

•    The credential designation will remain the same--currently credentialed professionals will not need to re-test.

•    Candidates wishing to test with the current exams should have done so before June 15, 2014 – after this date you will not be able to take the exams based on the LEED 2009 content.

•    Candidates wishing to test based on LEED v4 materials can do so after June 30, 2014.
