BOMA/NY Officer Hani Salama to be our Voice on NYC Energy Conservation Code Revisions

BOMA/NY Secretary Hani Salama, PE, LEED AP has been tapped to represent BOMA/NY and the private sector’s view on the NYC Energy Code Advisory Committee, which is now meeting to develop and review amendments to the Code. As a Committee member, Hani is doing what BOMA/NY does best--represent private sector concerns, including the practical applicability (financial and operational) of the proposed Code revisions. The review is part of the three-year, mandated revisions cycle.

Committee members must be considered "experts" in the Code, according to official documents, and a number of candidates were reviewed for the voluntary position. Hani was a natural choice because of his industry leadership and outstanding work in sustainability and energy conservation at the helm of Monday Properties’ operations, where he brought every property in the portfolio to Energy Star® status and many to LEED certification.

The Department of Buildings, which is overseeing the revision process, expects to begin submitting proposed revisions to the New York City Council later this fall.
