On the heels of the horrific Orlando shooting attack this past June, Congressman Dan Donovan (R-11th District, Brooklyn/Staten Island), and Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response and Communications, met with our Preparedness Committee at its June 17 meeting to discuss the work of his subcommittee and how it affects our City.

The Congressman "spoke in detail about lone wolf attacks, the difficulty in preventing them, and the connection between them and terrorist elements in the Middle East" reports BOMA/NY Director of Legislative Affairs, Daniel Avery.

On a more positive note, regarding steps that can be taken to mitigate such attacks, Daniel said that "the Congressman discussed the steps he has taken to restore millions of dollars in anti-terrorism funding for New York City that had been cut from the federal budget."

In addition to holding hearings, Congressman Donovan "was central to modifying the procurement and spending procedures related to such funding to make them more realistic," Daniel continued. "His approach was vital in helping to restore $100 million in funding for New York City, which had been cut from an original budget of $180 million. This is an important development for our City as it continues to fight terrorism every day."
