Oct. 27: Be There Now for DOB Now

Simpler, more transparent, and more efficient—who doesn’t want to hear that about Department of Buildings’ tasks that used to be so tedious (and torturous) they required budgeting for extra staff and added costly hours to a job, just to shepherd projects through the system?

At our Oct. 27 Annual Conference and Leadership Breakfast, you’ll learn how to work with the new, streamlined DOB NOW system directly from DOB Commissioner Rick D. Chandler, PE. Q&A will follow his keynote, and then we’ll dive into the details of how the program is working, and how to improve your interaction with the DOB, with our panel of experts from the New York City Coalition of Code Consultants.

Recently, the DOB has made huge strides in developing web-friendly systems that over the next two years, will be phasing out the need for, and the ability to undertake, in-person visits, repeated phone calls, and the old, online portal use, which has been discontinued. All owners and licensed professionals are required to use DOB NOW, and so there is no better way to learn about the system—and ask any questions you may have—than by joining your BOMA/NY colleagues at this breakfast event.

The Commissioner will cover these key items:

•  The new Inspection Ready program: Encompasses online scheduling, tracking, and notifications.

•  The Build program: Addresses online job and permit filing for plumbing and sprinkler work.

•   The Safety program: Covers online compliance for façade, elevators, and boilers. Note that the façade compliance part of this program launched Sept. 16.

The conference opens at 8 a.m. with breakfast/registration and officially gets underway at 8:30 a.m., with the announcement of our BOMA/NY election results. (See Newsmakers article in this issue) It will then move directly into the DOB NOW keynote, Q&A session and moderated panel forum, with adjournment expected at 10:30 a.m.. The cost is $125 for BOMA/NY members, $50 for BOMA/NY Emerging Leader members and $180 for non-members. The event will be held at Club 101, at 101 Park Avenue, at Park and 40th Street.
