CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
Dear BOMA New York Members,
Happy Fall BOMA New York! Before jumping into October, I would like to take a step back and thank our Allied and Professional Members for hosting this year's Annual Membership Event. The event was a hit! There were magnificent views, good food, and many networking opportunities. I am also pleased to announce a newly formalized Emerging Leaders Committee for BOMA New York. Since its inception in late 2016 the Emerging Leaders membership has grown significantly with over 25 members. The committee is charged with planning educational and networking events for its members as well as growing the Emerging Leaders membership. They will actively participate on our other committees and as a result bridge the gap between the emerging talent and senior leadership. Nicholas Fusco, Assistant Facilities Manager, Corporate Occupier and Investor Services, from Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. has been appointed as the chair of this committee. I look forward to seeing the committee and the Emerging Leader membership grow by leaps and bounds. As you know, we have several events coming up in the next few months, including our 50th Anniversary Celebration on October 24. Please consider supporting the event by purchasing a sponsorship or buying tickets. I hope to see you there as we celebrate 50 years of transforming the New York City skyline.
Sincerely, James R. Kleeman, RPA President of BOMA/NY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Please join us in welcoming our new members to the BOMA New York community. We’re changing things up at BOMA New York! Earlier this year we changed our logo, and in October we’ll be launching a BRAND NEW WEBSITE! The link will still be the same (bomany.org), however, it’ll be completely different. Our goal was to enhance the website experience and make things easier to find. Email us at bobbimc@bomany.com to share your feedback. Do you know someone that is interested in becoming a BOMA New York member? Let them know this is a great time to join. We are extending 3 months of free membership to anyone that submits their 2018 membership application now. Individuals who join under the “15 for 12” initiative will remain active members from October 1, 2017 through December 31, 2018. Please contact Ami Shah, Director of Membership & Special Events at Ami@bomany.com for application and details. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Mayor de Blasio is looking to push two major initiatives forward that will interest and no doubt concern BOMA New York members. First, the Mayor, along with the City Council, is looking to drastically cut emissions from existing building’s heating and cooling systems by 2030 in order to meet the City’s goal of reducing overall emissions by 80% by 2050. Few details of the mandate have been finalized or released, but the Council will reportedly introduce a bill as soon as early October, and they hope to pass it by the end of the year. This will require our close attention as we work with allies and the City to ensure a reasonable approach moving forward. In Case You Missed It
This month we hosted our very first Escape the Room program for our Emerging Leader members. Using wits and resources, our members had to find clues and solves puzzles to make their way out of a locked space. Whether you escaped the room or were close to finding your way out, it was all in good fun. The team at BOMA New York looks forward to coordinating more unique and exciting events in the future. On Thursday, September 21, 2017, we hosted our first fall 2017 Lunch and Learn event. Guest speaker, Rick Orman of Eaton Power Quality delivered a presentation on power factor correction and its application. Orman briefly explained what power factor is and discussed how it can affect the capacity and efficiency of a building’s electrical system. Thank you to everyone that attended. On Wednesday, September 27th, 2017, we hosted our September Seminar. This month, we were joined by Joseph Evangelista, director of corporate development at Croker Fire Drill; Patrick Timlin, senior vice president for U.S. security and life safety for Brookfield Office Properties; and Walter F. Ulmer III, president of Remlu Risk Management, LLC. Our speakers provided insights, techniques and realistic training methodologies to assist in engaging and training building staff. We would like to thank all our wonderful speakers. |
