CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

Dear BOMA New York Members,

June has been an exciting month for BOMA New York!

This month we have announced our partnership with Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business. This program will connect Fordham undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing careers in real estate or property management with the BOMA New York network, in hopes of providing jobs and internships. We are really looking forward to this opportunity to make an impact on the next generation of young professionals in the construction industry. For more information regarding this program, contact Assistant Director of Corporate Partnerships at Fordham University, Maricel Piriz, at mpiriz@fordham.edu.

In addition to this, the BOMA International Every Building Conference & Expo took place from Saturday, June 24th to Tuesday, June 27th at Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. We had a great time connecting with other BOMA Locals from around the country, and would highly recommend attending next year's conference in San Antonio, TX. BOMA's Annual International Conferences are great opportunities to learn about the latest trends and best practices around the country, as well as network with other professionals in the industry.

Looking ahead at the next few months, there is much to come for BOMA New York. I encourage you to get involved locally as well as on the regional and international level. If you want to learn more about how to get involved, please contact the BOMA New York office.

I look forward to seeing you at our Annual Membership Event on September 13th!

Enjoy your Summer!

Sincerely,

James R. Kleeman

President of BOMA/NY

Get to Know Your Board

Welcome to our "Get to Know Your Board" section of the newsletter. Each month, we interview and feature a different board member to help you get to know them better. Earlier this month, BOMA New York kicked off its new, year-long mentorship program. The program is aimed at connecting BOMA New York members who may be new to the commercial property management industry with seasoned, well-experienced professionals. The hope is that these mentor/mentee relationships will give support to the BOMA New York Emerging Leaders, increase job retention in the industry, provide a sounding board and opportunity for advice, and promote individual learning and growth. Last month, news of the mentorship program broke in Mann Report Management.

On June 27, the City Council held a hearing on a raft of energy efficiency bills, several of which we submitted comments on. One, Int. No. 1632, requires buildings to develop energy efficiency scores and grades to be posted in the lobby and disclosed at the time of sale or lease. A second, Int. No. 1629, requires new buildings and substantial renovations (costing half the building's value or more) to meet stretch codes considerably stricter than the State code in 2017 and 2019, and to achieve a low energy intensity standard starting in 2025. A third bill, Int. No. 1637, would set up an ongoing energy policy task force.

BOMA International hosted its Annual Conference & Expo in Nashville, Tennessee from June 24-27, 2017. At the Board of Governors meeting on Sunday, June 25th, BOMA adopted a new Water and Waste (W2) challenge.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unveiled the "ENERGY STAR® Top Cities" rankings, its annual list of cities with the most ENERGY STAR® certified buildings, during the Monday General Session at the BOMA International Annual Conference & Expo in Nashville, Tennessee.

The BOMA 360 Performance ProgramĀ® sets the standard worldwide for operational best practices in the commercial real estate industry. For building owners and managers who want to help their properties stand out from the crowd, there is no clearer mark of excellence than achieving the BOMA 360 designation. Earning the prestigious BOMA 360 label demonstrates that a building is outperforming the competition across all areas of operations and management. It also translates into measurable savings and operational efficiencies, as well as higher levels of tenant satisfaction.
