Wesgroup's journey to operational excellence

In striving for operational excellence, Wesgroup Properties made significant steps forward by working with BOMA BC during 2019. They used many of BOMA’s resources and programs to assist them in identifying energy and environmental opportunities within their properties and to grow their sustainability platform.

The end result of this journey culminated in being awarded three BOMA TOBY Awards (The Outstanding Building of the Year) for their buildings.

Wesgroup began its process with BOMA by participating in the free energy assessments offered by BOMA BC’s Energy Manager. Stemming from these assessments they received a report for each building and a customized workplan for growing their energy management strategy. Wesgroup chose to use the assessment reports to set energy reduction targets and the workplans as an impetus to pursue BOMA BEST certification for several of their properties.

BOMA BEST proved to be a valuable experience for Wesgroup’s Asset Management Team. Not only did it challenge those on the team to take a deep dive into the environmental opportunities within their properties, but it also introduced them to fresh solutions for optimizing their building systems and refining many of their operational procedures.

It was on the heels of Wesgroup’s BOMA BEST certifications that they decided to nominate three of their buildings for TOBY awards, within various asset categories, for the 2020 BOMA BC Awards Gala.

Wesgroup felt confident it had a lot of material to work with for its submissions given all it had completed for these buildings to date. And it would appear the BOMA judging panel agreed, as not only did all three buildings become finalists in their respective categories but they won! All three buildings are now on their way to the National Awards in fall 2020. The Wesgroup team is so proud to have been recognized for all of their hard work and so appreciative of BOMA BC’s team and their program offerings.

Wesgroup plans to use its BOMA Awards and BOMA BEST certifications to enhance their buildings’ marketing, tenant engagement and prospecting programs.

Wesgroup also looks forward to a continuance of the environmental values and best in class principles that were obtained throughout this process with their current and future tenants as they continue their path toward operational excellence.
