Minimum Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Commercial Parking Lots

Minimum Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Commercial Parking Lots

Starting in 2025, the City of Vancouver will require commercial parking lots with 60 or more stalls to provide 26.6 kW of EV charging power (this is equivalent to four Level 2 chargers).

Businesses that do not provide minimum amount of charging capacity will be subject to an annual business license fee of $10,000.

The new requirements specify minimum power outputs, rather than the number of chargers, in order to provide more flexibility to businesses.

The City of Vancouver’s economic analysis forecasts a payback period of 7 years for the costs of installing charging stations.

There are a series of provincial and federal governments rebate programs to support businesses installing electric vehicle charging. Business owners will also be eligible to collect the Province’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard Credits for selling electricity.
