Toy soldiers on guard at BOMA Christmas Luncheon

BOMA members stepped into a realm of toy soldiers, nutcrackers and ballerinas at the Christmas Luncheon. Over 860 guests took home a mini nutcracker decoration, and one person from each table won an 18-inch nutcracker and bottle of Goldschlager. Playing on our Russian ballet theme, complimentary Moscow Mules were passed around at the reception, and the grand prize was a trip to Russia (a $6,000 Flight Centre gift card).

Candle use increases during the winter months and is a cause of home fires and home fire deaths. In the USA fire departments respond to an estimated 11,640 homes structure fires that were started by candles which caused 126 deaths, 953 injuries and $438 million in direct property damage. Garbage and recycling fee increase

On Nov. 1, the GVS&DD board approved changes to the Tipping Fee Bylaw effective Jan. 1, 2020. One of the key changes is that garbage tipping fees increase by $5 per tonne except for large loads (greater than nine tonnes), which increase by $9 per tonne.

Changes to BC Building Code 2018 effective Dec. 12

Revision 2 of the BC Building Code has been approved. These changes were effective Dec. 12, 2019, and apply to building permits applied for on or after this date. Continue reading for amendments.

RHFAC Training Now Available Online

In January 2020, Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) Training will be available online through Athabasca University. The online course will use immersive technology to train individuals how to use RHFAC methodology to rate and certify the built environment on its level of meaningful access. Upon successful completion of this course and exam, individuals will obtain their RHFAC Professional designation, qualifying them to conduct ratings of the built environment and pre-construction plans. BOMA Canada Rick Hansen Accessibility Challenge Awards

BOMA Canada is committed to creating a world without barriers through meaningful accessibility in the built environment. Supporting this initiative, BOMA Canada has partnered with the Rick Hansen Foundation to invite BOMA members to have their buildings rated for accessibility using the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) program.
