“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen and a push in the right direction.” – John Crosby Mentoring relationships are a valuable tool that can have a profound positive impact. BOMA’s Mentorship Program was created to assist members who are new to the property management industry and would benefit from the knowledge and guidance of a mentor. Regulatory News
The 2021 edition of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) is expected to be proclaimed by the Province of B.C. in the next few months. Copies of the CEC are now available through local electrical distributors and at the CSA Bookstore: Product - CSA Group. The CSA website also offers free online viewing of the CEC.
Government Affairs
Climate change projections suggest that Surrey will experience hotter and drier summers in the years to come. Dense urban hubs like City Centre are already hotter than other parts of Surrey due to the urban heat island (UHI) effect. As City Centre undergoes rapid transformation into a walkable, transit-oriented downtown, Surrey is inviting building development and operation professionals from across Metro Vancouver to share their perspectives and ideas on UHI mitigation and adaptation tools for Part 3 buildings.

BOMA BC teamed up with BOMA Calgary to host an event on April 1 for emerging leaders. In early June 2021, Metro Vancouver is planning to increase the pH and alkalinity of the region’s drinking water through the use of natural minerals. This increase in pH and alkalinity is an important step in a long-term program to reduce pipe corrosion from naturally occurring elements in drinking water.
