I have just taken a role as the Executive Director of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations, which is an association that is "United in the worldwide fight against ALS/MND."

I like to contribute to CSAE in any way that I can and have had the opportunity to be involved in the CAE Program and Competencies, the Membership Committee, the Board of Directors, and advocacy. CSAE has such a rich pool of members that are always willing to share so that no one should feel they have to re-invent the wheel and it is this robust community that really brings me value as a member. In addition, our CSAE staff team is my secret arrow in my quiver of resources - they are all fantastic!

My name is Kevin Jackson, and I am a founding partner with bizZone Inc., a technology company that specializes in associations.

I immediately joined multiple committees within my first year with CSAE and later served a term on the CSAE Trillium Network council. In 2012 I was honored with the Chapter Service Excellence Award for Business Members, a very humbling experience. We work with many associations and CSAE is different. I appreciate the core professional values of dignity and mutual respect that characterize the members that I have come to know well.

Sometimes, figuring out if your association messages are getting through to your members feels like playing "Duck, Duck, Goose." You hold your breath in anticipation, hoping they’ll land on "goose" and choose your message as the one of the lucky ones they’ll read that day.

Duties and Responsibilities is the indispensable resource for all who sit on not-for-profit boards in Canada. Our top best-seller, this book provides information on the roles, duties, liabilities and protection of directors of boards.

Excerpt

"Whether or not a board of directors is effective will depend on many factors, including the competency and integrity of the directors, the structure of the board and its committees, and the practices that are employed by the board to carry out its work.

The best way to reduce the potential liability of directors is to ensure that the board is carrying out its responsibilities for organizational stewardship and board stewardship, and that individual directors exercise their fiduciary duty and duty of care."
