Member since 2005 I have been with the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR) since 2004. I started as the director of finance and have been CEO since 2011. I joined CSAE to learn more about managing a non-profit association and to gain insights into what others are doing. CSAE is a fantastic way to share information and best practices with other like-minded executives and keep abreast of emerging trends. About three years ago, we started to apply for the CSAE awards as a way of showcasing some of our best practices and a way to learn from others. We have received several awards in the areas of government relations, marketing and strategic focus, and I feel that this has given all of us at NSAR a great sense of pride. I enjoy the CSAE conference and the magazine. I send my staff to the conferences and feel this has helped them grow and gain valuable contacts throughout the industry. I am a proud member of CSAE. Associations depend on elections and other kinds of voting activities. Board members must be elected, bylaws amended and financials ratified. However, it’s not always easy for associations to conduct these votes. It can be quite costly and time-consuming for associations to plan in-person votes. Mailing ballots to the membership is also a labour-intensive activity. And, even after putting in a lot of work, the end result may be low voter turnout. However, by paying attention to these best practices, associations can help their membership cast votes in order to get an accurate and fair result. Source: Associations Now
It can feel like you’re saving money by delaying a technical fix or update, but in reality, you may be setting yourself up for bigger costs later on, according to speakers at the ASAE Technology Exploration Conference last week. Colin Dhillon says automobiles are going to become increasingly connected through mobile phones, which means different industrial sectors can no longer work in isolation as the relationship between consumer and vehicle changes.
