Executive Director's View
By Ron Campbell
Community colleges are special places. Sal Kahn, the founder of the Kahn Academy thinks so.
Sal Kahn was a keynote speaker at the recent American Association of Community Colleges Annual Conference in San Francisco, CA and he pointed out that community colleges have the unique ability to be flexible enough to adapt quickly to new learning modules that support how students learn and not how we desire to teach. Radical concept.
All around us we are seeing new trends in social media, new forms of learning materials and new ways of taking learning outside the classroom.
The need to discover and use new innovations is a priority for community colleges. Never before has there been a more critical time for internal and external partnerships that can bring new energies and financial resources to support campus operations and services.
The 2013 CCBO Annual International Conference program will deliver ideas for new programs and services to support the campus mission. The Leadership Academy will support the development of future business and campus leaders. The colleagues and business partners that you will meet will generate new ideas and deliver further justification to support your time and financial investment of attending the annual conference in Palm Springs, CA.
I have attended many events in this my first year as CCBO Executive Director and as I have met many people from all parts of the US and Canada, they are all excited about the special attention being given to community colleges and their role to make higher education access possible and higher education achievement a reality.
Please take the time to visit the CCBO conference web site (www.ccbo.org) and send the link to others on your campus that you work with and who you believe would benefit from our annual conference.
Our business partners and institutions are presenting new models of student and academic service delivery designed to support learning outcomes and I invite you to help us make our community colleges leaders in campus business innovations and collaborations.
Thanks for taking the time to support CCBO and I hope to see you in Palm Springs. |
