By Vicki L. Gardner Kankakee Community College (KCC) has long espoused the concept of developing leadership among its employees. In addition to investing in external leadership training, the College has recently revitalized and institutionalized a formal internal Leadership Development Program (LDP). As many among the senior administration at KCC are nearing the waning years of their careers, similar to the situation at many other higher education institutions, the development of future leaders has perhaps never been a timelier topic.

The successful series will continue in 2015 and will cover topics such as budgeting for student success, bookstores and dynamic textbook pricing, best practices, and much more. If your institution has an innovative solution to a challenge that many colleges face, present a webinar or submit a proposal for this year's conference. CCBO members are the industry experts, and we want you to share your expertise. To share your knowledge with other business officers, contact Lillian De Lisle (lillian.delisle@ccbo.org / (434) 293-2825 ex. 229).

By Jami Van Ess It’s the time of year to review our accomplishments from the past year and set our goals for the year ahead. My first step in reviewing the past is to practice gratitude. I am continually amazed at so many things I have to be thankful for, especially all the wonderful people in my life. I am thankful for my kids and family who mean the world to me. I am thankful to the people I work with every day who are so dedicated to helping our students to achieve their goals. And I am also thankful for my many friends and colleagues at CCBO from whom I learn so much and whose new ideas I bring back and share at my college. My next step is to review my goals for the year ahead as well as my "to do" lists. The best way to ensure the success of business or personal goals is to use SMART goals, which is an acronym for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound.

By Ron Campbell As we welcome 2015 and say goodbye to 2014, I want to reflect on the good things that were accomplished and the new opportunities that CCBO members can look forward to seeing from us to benefit your institutions and support your professional development. CCBO is a vibrant association dedicated to the growth of business leadership in community colleges. The 2014 Annual Conference in San Antonio had over 150 attendees and more than 25 attended the Leadership Academy. The relevance of CCBO is being noticed by Community College Presidents as we annually attend, sponsor programs, and exhibit at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Annual Convention. Our CCBO committees have worked hard the past year to support the annual conference, CCBO webinars, membership activities, and volunteer engagement.
