I have been fortunate to be able to work with hundreds of colleges and have seen several common practices that continue to pop up that can inadvertently compromise a campus’ security posture. Version 3.0 of the PCI DSS emphasizes that PCI compliance should not be viewed as a one-time event but rather should be integrated into daily "business as usual" practices and my New Year’s wish is that all take this seriously and to that end everyone should consider adopting the following as the basis for your information security program.

While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was designed to increase access to quality, affordable healthcare, the regulatory ramifications have sent a shock wave through Human Resources departments across the nation. By redefining what it means to be a "full-time employee"—and therefore eligible for health benefits—employers everywhere are forced to reexamine the way they do business. These mandates—with their complex forms and reporting requirements—are challenging enough to implement at organizations that employ only full-time workers, but it’s especially complicated at community colleges, where much of the workforce is made up of "non-traditional" employees.

Since its founding in 1983, CCBO has been the premier association for community college business officers. It is with this history in mind that I proudly journeyed more than 2,800 miles from Berkley, California to Charlottesville, Virginia. As I step into my new role of CCBO Executive Director I am proud to bring my passion for the business of higher education to the Association. My 15 years of higher education and association management experience have taught me that collaboration, forethought, and dedication are integral to the success of an association and its members.

I would like to begin by welcoming aboard our new NACAS/CCBO Executive Director Kelsey Harmon Finn. I look forward to working with Kelsey to continue to carry out CCBO’s mission and solidify CCBO as the premier association serving community college business officers.
CCBO experienced several unexpected leadership vacancies at the end of 2015. I would like to thank Jami Van Ess for her diligence and commitment in not only recruiting and assisting in finding replacements for the open positions, but also her guidance and assistance as I transitioned into the Presidency position.
