Source: Canadian Business Hydro-Québec’s deal to build 233 kilometres’ worth of high-voltage lines through New England has angered Indigenous groups, fossil-fuel companies and conservationists alike. The project would make the public utility a dominant player in clean energy. Does it have the juice to succeed? Source: ConstructConnect Alectra Utilities Corporation recently announced it has donated a bucket truck to help train powerline technicians at Cambrian College in Barrie, Ont. The vehicle donated is a 2008 diesel-powered International 7400 bucket truck, equipped with a Posi-Plus Double Bucket 63 Foot Aerial Device, stated a release. Alectra serves over one million homes and businesses in Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe. “We know students will benefit from these additional resources that are sometimes outside the reach of program budgets and we’re proud to contribute to the powerline technician training program at Cambrian College,” said Brian Bentz, president and CEO of Alectra, in a statement. “It’s rewarding to provide support for the training of future powerline professionals that will serve our industry and communities in the future.”
Source: ConstructConnect It’s like an underground submarine, boring beneath the Earth’s surface. In this case it was the Robbins Earth Pressure Balance custom designed Tunnel Boring Machine, which has now completed one of the most delicate construction segments for Montreal’s new Réseau express métropolitain (REM) 67 kilometre light rail network. The almost two-year drilling of 2.5 kilometres under the delicate soft soil took place in the so-called West Island Technoparc wetlands and the runways of the city’s Trudeau International Airport. It’s the only section of the surface and elevated REM that had to be bored underground, so as not to disrupt the natural ecology as well as the massive airport infrastructure leading to a station in the bowels of the airport, due to open in 2025. This is also demonstrated by a project in the Canadian city of Winnipeg. Info-Excavation was thrilled and proud to participate in the 2022 CCGA symposium.
