G. Todd Scott, B.Sc., CET Todd brings 30 years of diverse field and leadership experience across the public utility, natural gas distribution, and environmental/geotechnical consulting sectors to his new role as executive director of the Canadian Common Ground Alliance (CCGA). Based in Riverview, New Brunswick, Todd's career is founded with strong operational roots and marked by his dedication to operational safety, process improvement, and risk management having led numerous high-impact initiatives focused on enhancing safety programs, regulatory compliance, and environmental protection. Most recently, as director of operational effectiveness at Algonquin Power & Utilities, Todd's responsibilities included harmonization of operational processes and procedures, centralization of technical training efforts, and improving quality of services within each of their regulated natual gas, electric, and water/wastewater business lines modalities across North America. Todd's experience is complemented by his 20-plus year tenure at Enbridge Gas New Brunswick where he served in progressively responsible leadership roles, starting as a regional operational supervisor (and locator), progressing to construction and maintenance manager to manager, safety and operational reliability. Todd has long been a passionate advocate for damage prevention and public safety in infrastructure protection. He was a driving force in the creation of the Atlantic Common Ground Alliance (ATLCGA), serving as a founding member and inaugural Chair. Todd also contributed to many national initiatives as an active member and past chair of the CCGA board of directors. In his free time, Todd is an avid outdoors man who enjoys spending time with Alison, his wife of 32 years, and their daughters Katelyn and Carmen, downhill skiing, trips on his ATV, and summers at the cottage. Through his strategic leadership and commitment to continuous improvement, Todd looks forward to furthering CCGA's mission of improving public safety and protecting infrastructure across Canada.
The Canadian Common Ground Alliance is excited to announce our Call for Papers for the 2025 CCGA Damage Prevention Symposium. To be considered, please complete the submission process and be sure to include all pertinent details. Submissions will be open until Friday, April 25, 2025. Those that are accepted will be contacted by Friday, May 30, 2025, to confirm participation in the program. We are requesting papers for the following topics but encourage papers on any topic relevant to damage prevention in your industry.

Registratons are open: take advantage of the preferential rate. To date in 2025, the BCCGA Education Committee has created a member event calendar and selected dates for four Underground Disturbance breakfasts. The first one will be held in Coquitlam, March 12, 2025. In November, we will hold an afternoon event for those in the agrology, farmer, landscaper line of work, sharing the importance of safe underground disturbance, Rights of Way (ROW), and the need to contact BC 1Call. This has been an area of great concern, highlighted by members and survey respondents. Dig Safe courses are being planned in conjunction with the breakfast events. These will be handled through Global Training. Our BCCGA events are now recognized by both HPO and Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) to assign CPD or CEU points to event attendees. BCCGA will host motivational speaker Jack Thomas who will share his personal story highlighting the critical importance of safe practices, expecially when working around underground utilities. The event includes concurrent educational sessions, training opportunities, committee meetings, a tradeshow, and networking events. We estimate over 200 stakeholders will attend, including contractors, machine operators, facility operators, training providers, line locators, regulators, safety representatives, equipment suppliers, and more. The Canadian Common Ground Alliance is pleased to share the CCGA National DIRT (Damage Information Reporting Tool) Report for 2023. This report, based on data submitted by stakeholders from across the country, presents the state of damage prevention in Canada by analyzing information on infrastructure damages that occurred in 2023. The report shows another year of reduction in overall damages, the fifth year in a row that we see this promising performance!
