The ACC’s Tomorrow’s Leadership Council (TLC) is designed to advance and vest executive talent in the coal industry. The Council provides a meaningful opportunity for up-and-coming executives to enhance their industry knowledge and networks through projects and activities that advance industry-wide objectives as well as professional development goals.

This program is open to members and non-members, so if you know of good candidates for the program please make them aware of it. There are already well over 110 "graduates" from over 45 companies from the TLC program since it began several years ago. Information and registration is at: www.americancoalcouncil.org/?tlc.

Please also call or email Jason Hayes, ACC Associate Director, with any questions or comments.

The ACC would like to send out a special note of thanks and congratulations to Doug Glass on the news of his pending retirement.

After almost 40 years of service with Union Pacific and 11 years in the coal business, Doug is, as he said, "turning off his headlamp and hanging up his hard hat," at the end of February.

Doug has been an active and valued member of the American Coal Council over the past several years, having served as the President of our Board of Directors, a member of the board, a regular attendee at ACC events, a steadfast sponsor and supporter of ACC publications and committees.

We wish Doug all the best in this new phase of his life. Thank you once again and congratulations!

On January 29th, 2016, Jason Hayes, Associate Director of the American Coal Council took part in the US Energy Panel at the 16th Annual Coaltrans USA Conference in Miami. The panel discussed "How reliable will the provision of electricity be following the EPA Clean Power Plan?"

Jason was joined on the panel by
•  Josh Zive, Bracewell Giuliani
•  Holly Bender, Deputy Director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign
•  Andrew Wheeler, FaegreBD Consulting

The discussion was lively and covered a mix of issues including the future of the American coal industry, climate change policy, and the impacts and costs of Obama administration regulations on energy production. SNL Energy reporter Taylor Kuykendall’s Storify story on his coverage of the Coaltrans 2016 event provides a detailed blow-by-blow of the panel for those who would like to better understand the panel’s conversation.

The ACC recognizes the importance of an open discussion of key regulatory issues such as these and welcomes the opportunity to meet and network with fellow energy industry professionals.

More information on this event is available on the Coaltrans website.

The American Coal Council's (ACC) Communications Committee principally serves as a sounding board for the ACC staff and board of directors, providing feedback on strategies and tactics associated with association communications and marketing materials.

This is a critical time for the coal industry to be sending out information and producing effective programs. Would you like to be involved with guiding the industry’s communications and outreach? If you are interested or have contacts that may be interested in the ACC’s Communications Committee, please contact either Betsy Monseu or Jason Hayes at 202-756-4540 or info@americancoalcouncil.org.

February Coal Q&A Webcast – "Leveling the Playing Field: Policy Parity for Carbon Capture and Storage Technologies"

Janet Gellici, CEO National Coal Council
Wednesday, February 10, 2016 ~ 2-3pm Eastern

In response to a request from U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, the National Coal Council (NCC) prepared a report in November 2015 with detailed recommendations on incentives and policies needed to level the playing field for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies. An earlier report by NCC to the Secretary had recommended the Department of Energy take a stronger position on policy parity for CCS with other low carbon technologies such as renewables.

Janet Gellici returns to the ACC Coal Q&A webcast series to provide a briefing on the findings and recommendations of NCC’s "Policy Parity" white paper, addressing:
•  The importance of policy parity for CCS
•  The status of the current playing field tilted away from coal and CCS
•  Financial and policy measures essential to leveling the playing field

There is no charge for members of the American Coal Council, but pre-registration is required.
Non-members may register for a fee of $50.
Space is limited to the first 50 registrants. Register TODAY!
