CDA’s Mining Dams Committee is issuing for review and comment proposed revisions to wording for Section 2.4 Landforms of the Technical Bulletin: Application of Dam Safety Guidelines to Mining Dams, that was issued in 2019. The revised name for Section 2.4 is "Transitioning a Tailings Storage Facility to a Tailings Stack.”
The CDA Mining Dams Committee is particularly interested in feedback on the following topics related to this guidance:
- Application of risk assessment principles for identifying Tailings Stacks.
- Designing a conventional slurried tailings storage facility so that it can be easily converted to a Tailings Stack at closure.
- Modifying existing slurried tailings storage facilities to achieve the configuration of a Tailings Stack for closure.
- Examples of tailings storage facilities that do not explicitly meet all of the criteria of a Tailings Stack but are considered for de-classification as a dam based on risk criteria.
- Terminology and use of the Tailings Stack term.
