CDA is pleased to announce the publication of its latest technical bulletin, Emergency Management for Dam Safety. Developed by the Emergency Management Working Group of the Dam Safety Committee, this bulletin is a supplement to CDA’s Dam Safety Guidelines. The bulletin addresses risks, including release of water and (in the case of mining dams) other fluids, that could result from structural failure, mis-operation, planned operation or any other cause. It provides guidance to assist dam owners in the preparation of Dam Emergency Plans designed to serve the needs of the dam owner, stakeholders, emergency managers, community first responders, and those who regulate and support dam safety. As such, it is a key component of overall dam safety management.
Emergency Management for Dam Safety is now available (in English) in the CDA Shop at a cost of $75 per personalized copy for members – a saving of $100 over the non-member price. Translation of the bulletin into French is underway and will be announced as soon as it is ready.
CDA would like to thank the Emergency Management Working Group, a group of dedicated dam safety professionals under the leadership of Tony Bennett, for their hard work on this bulletin. We also express our appreciation to CDA members and others who participated, through workshops, discussions, and review of draft versions, in the development process.
