The Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), founded in 1887, has announced the winning recipients of its 2023 senior engineering awards and fellowship inductees. CDA is pleased to announce that David Mack, CDA member, has been inducted as a 2023 EIC Fellow for his exceptional contributions to engineering in Canada.
Over the last 4 decades, David has pursued a dual career where he progressed through the management track, first as President of his own consulting engineering company and later as a Principal with Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. and ultimately as Vice-President, Alberta, while, at the same time, advancing through the technical track as an active participant in the central engineering themes of our Alberta operations, dams and water infrastructure/hydro design and construction and dam safety operations.
On the project and technical side, David has worked on a number of projects that have won awards, including the Consulting Engineers of Alberta Awards of Excellence or Merit for Glenmore Causeway in 2008, the St. Mary Dam Spillway Replacement in 2001, the Harvie Passage – Calgary Bow River Weir in 2012 and 2020, the Parkdale Plaza in 2016, the Riverdale Avenue Retaining Wall Replacement Combined Travers and Little Bow Dams in 2018, the Harvie Passage in 2020, and the Glenmore Dam Rehabilitation in 2022 in 2021, and the Alberta Chapter of the American Concrete Institute Award of Excellence for the 52 Street Grade Separation and Widening project in 2013 and the Glenmore Dam Rehabilitation in 2022. He has also assisted Alberta Transportation in developing their Water Control Structures – Selected Design Guidelines (2004) and their Civil Works Master Specifications for water management projects (2004). His outstanding career contributions have positively impacted many engineers, clients, and the society at large in Canada.
