This draft bulletin has been prepared by a working group composed of dedicated volunteer members of CDA and was initiated with a view to sharing Subject Matter Expert experience in the field of dam design and construction. However, we recognize that the Technical Bulletin, like all CDA guidance documentation, should be a consensus of a wider spectrum of experience within the dam community. This will improve credibility and produce a readily defendable reference.

To celebrate CDA’s 25th anniversary, we are looking to promote the great Canadian dams that have contributed to the progress of our economy and society.
To enter the contest, your submission will include a photograph of the dam, and a detailed text containing the name of the dam, its location, a brief description, and an explanation of how this specific dam meets each contest criteria. The judges’ panels will select one winning photo from each region. Additionally, in celebration, a general contest will be open from July to October where you will select the grand prize winner. The regional winners will receive a $100 prize and the "Most Liked Dam” grand prize winner will be announced at the 2022 CDA Conference in St. John's, and awarded a $500 prize.

Pour célébrer le 25e anniversaire de l’ACB, nous cherchons à promouvoir les magnifiques barrages canadiens qui ont contribué au progrès de notre économie et de notre société.
Votre proposition doit comprendre une photographie du barrage, et un texte détaillé contenant le nom du barrage, son emplacement, une brève description et une explication de la manière dont ce barrage précis répond aux critères du concours. Le jury sélectionnera une photo pour chaque région. Pour la deuxième partie de cette passionnante célébration, un concours public sera ouvert de juillet à octobre où vous sélectionneriez le grand vainqueur. Les gagnants régionaux recevront un prix de 100$ et le gagnant du Grand Prix « Barrage le plus aimé » sera annoncé à la Conférence de St John’s 2022 de l’ACB et gagnera un prix de 500$.

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Group undertook a research project on climate change adaptation for dams – an area which has not been well-studied in the past and one which does not readily adapt itself to solutions for other types of infrastructure. This study, prepared with the participation of several CDA members, consisted of a literature review (legislation and regulation; CDA, ICOLD and ISO guidance documents), stakeholder interviews, and a workshop.

Le groupe de l’Association canadienne de normalisation (CSA) a entrepris un projet de recherche sur l’adaptation des barrages aux changements climatiques — un domaine qui n’a pas été bien étudié dans le passé et auquel les solutions pour d’autres types d’infrastructures se prêtent difficilement. Cette étude, préparée avec la participation de plusieurs membres de l’ACB, a comporté une analyse documentaire (législation et réglementation; documents d’orientation de l’ACB, de la CIGB et de la norme ISO), des entretiens avec les intervenants et un atelier.

It’s that time! CDA Published Paper Award of Excellence nominations and applications are now open! Nominations can come from both CDA members and non-members. This award supports CDA’s mission: encourage cooperation, advance technical knowledge, and build competency related to dams in Canada. Any papers (conferences, peer-reviewed journals, congresses, online magazines) are accepted. Presentations done in workshops and webinars are accepted, only if a related accompanying paper was submitted and published in a magazine, journal, compendium of papers, conference proceeding. Please submit your nomination directly to awards@cda.ca attaching the technical paper, before August 5 with any relevant information or statements that come in support of the nomination.

On March 28th and 29th, CDA delivered a workshop on Emergency Management for Dam Safety to a group of 42 Peruvians from the mining sector regulator (OSINERGMIN), the environmental regulator (OEFA) and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru (MINEM).
The workshop outlined the process presented in CDA’s Technical Bulletin: Emergency Management for Dam Safety, including risk assessment, maintenance of readiness, response, and recovery.
