CDA recognizes Savanna Herman who has been the YP Committee Chair for the past two years. The YP Committee selected James Tipman to become the Chair on October 19. Savanna wishes to thank the whole CDA team for the continuous support and said "I have learned a lot in this role. It has been a great opportunity to meet other professionals in the industry and build connections.” Thank you, Savanna, for your commitment in supporting the development of new activities like the YP social events, the projects that have come from Committee members like the pilot mentorship project, the presentation to the British Dam Society. To celebrate CDA’s 25th anniversary, CDA wanted to promote the great Canadian dams that have contributed to the progress of our economy and society.  

In May 2022, a national contest was launched where CDA members and non-members were invited to submit their "Most Interesting Dam in Canada” with background description and picture.  

Nine dams were selected for each Canadian region and during the nine following weeks, from July to September, each regional winner was posted on social media (LinkedIn/Twitter) for public to vote on the CDA contest webpage.

The winning dam was announced at the 2022 CDA St John’s Conference: Duncairn Dam, Saskatchewan, submitted by Sydney James was the Grand Prize winner!

Pour célébrer le 25e anniversaire de l’ACB, l’ACB cherchait à promouvoir les magnifiques barrages canadiens qui ont contribué au progrès de notre économie et de notre société.  

En mai 2022, un concours national a été lancé où les membres et non-membres de l’ACB ont été invités à soumettre leur « Barrage le plus intéressant au Canada » avec une photo et une description générale.

Neuf barrages ont été sélectionnés pour chaque région et pendant les neuf semaines suivantes, de juillet à septembre, chaque gagnant régional a été publié sur les médias sociaux (LinkedIn/Twitter), le public étant invité à voter sur la page Web du concours de l’ACB.

Le barrage gagnant a été annoncé lors du Congrès 2022 de l’ACB, à St. John’s : Duncairn Dam, Saskatchewan, soumis par Sydney James a été honoré du Grand Prix !

The 2023 CDA Conference Committee is excited to invite you to be a presenter at the Canadian Dam Association Conference, which will be held on October 22-25 at the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre. 

Technical sessions will consider past performance and historical design criteria of aging infrastructure while focusing on environmental, social, economic and technological changes as well as evolving expectations of regulatory regimes related to the construction and operation of dams.

In October 2021, the Dam Safety Committee (DSC) launched a questionnaire to generate member feedback on the current (2013) version of the Dam Safety Guidelines (the Guidelines) and the accompanying Technical Bulletins, most of which date from 2007. The survey period was closed in February 2022 and the DSC is in the process of evaluating the responses and working on the path forward.

Firstly, the DSC would like to recognize the efforts made by the CDA members who took time to respond to this survey. Ninety-eight responses were received for the English version and thirteen for the French. A wide spectrum of roles in the industry, with a range of technical experience, and general input from regions across the country was noted which all helped to ensure good representation of the Canadian context when analyzing the results.

En octobre 2021, le Comité sur la sécurité des barrages (CSB) a lancé un questionnaire pour recueillir les commentaires des membres sur la version actuelle (2013) des Recommandations sur la sécurité des barrages (les Recommandations) et les bulletins techniques qui les accompagnent, dont la plupart datent de 2007. La période d'enquête s’est terminée en février 2022 et le CSB est en train d'analyser les réponses et de travailler sur la voie à suivre.

Premièrement, le CSB tient à souligner les efforts déployés par les membres de l’ACB qui ont pris le temps de répondre à ce sondage. Quatre-vingt-dix-huit réponses ont été reçues pour la version anglaise et treize pour la version française. L’ensemble des répondants provient d’un large éventail de secteurs de l'industrie des barrages, avec une gamme diversifiée d'expériences techniques, représentant l’ensemble des différentes régions à travers le pays, ce qui a permis d'assurer une bonne représentation du contexte canadien lors de l'analyse des résultats.
