The Canadian Dam Association (CDA) has continued to work on issues coming out of the Independent Expert Engineering Investigation and Review Panel into the failure of the tailings storage facility at the Mount Polley Mine in British Columbia on Aug. 4, 2014.

The Canadian Dam Association appoints representatives to technical committees of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD). CDA has one vacancy that it is seeking to fill at this time, a seat on the Committee on Hydraulics for Dams.

Sixty-five participants from across Canada converged on Ottawa Feb. 24 and 25 to consider the needs of the Canadian dam industry for emergency planning and management. A broad cross-section of dam owners, including tailings dam operators, regulatory bodies, provincial and federal government agencies, consultants and emergency management specialists discussed the state-of-practice for dams in Canada.
