THETA Chapter January 2011 Newsletter

Membership:

I want to congratulate all of you for renewing your CSAO membership. Theta has 113 members. Please check with your fellow colleagues and if they have not joined please encourage them to join. If you have not renewed please do so ASAP. The membership form is available on the CSAO website www.csao.net.

THETA Education Session and Meeting:

Theta Chapter's second meeting and education session was held November 3, 2010. We had 31 sites and 86 attending. Minutes will be posted on the CSAO website Theta Chapter. It is important to ensure you send in your attendance as Theta chapter draws for two members to get a free CSAO conference registration if you attend three meetings. All sessions are archived with OTN so if you want to view the sessions contact OTN. Our next sessions are listed below so please contact Nancy Aelick at naelick@sjgh.ca if your site is not registered.

February 9, 2011- Temperature and Humidity Controls
April 6, 2011 – Bed Pan Washers - Validation and requirements?
Please make sure you plan to attend as according to PIDAC you need documented in service and education yearly and these sessions qualify for education. Also, this is the last session that counts towards the draw for free CSAO conference registration.

CSAO Classroom Courses:

Classroom course May 2012
Locations: Timmins host site with Sudbury, Thunder Bay, North Bay, Sault Ste Marie and Orillia as OTN sites.
Dates: May 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th 2012
Registration deadline: March 9th 2012.

Recertification:

• Must hold a CSAO certificate or a Canadian College certificate dated five years
  prior to the registration being received or later. A photocopy of your certificate
  is required. Certificate date: Session 2 Dec 1 2005 or later
  
• Must be a current CSAO member (2010-2011 membership year).
  
• Must work in a Reprocessing Department in a health care setting (application to be signed
  by Manager).
  

Registration Closing Date: December 1, 2010
Course Start Date: January 4, 2011 Exam Deadline: April 4, 2011
Certificate Date: December 1, 2005 or later

Newsletters:

All CSAO newsletters and Theta chapter newsletters are sent by email now. Many members do not have email so please print this information and post in your department. For those of you who have not sent in an email address please see if you can provide one. Your manager will allow you to use their email to receive information or use a friend's account --otherwise you will miss important information.

CSA Standards

Z314.22 -2010 Loaners has just been published so can be ordered.
Z314. 23 Chemical Sterilization of Reusable Medical Devices in Health Care Facilities is being produced and it should be ready for public review sometime in February or March so watch for this as it will cover all reprocessing chemicals including EtO and will provide guidance for all the new technologies.
Z314.3 will have an addendum published with the extended cycle’s tables.
