CENTRAL SERVICE ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO - ETA Chapter
Meeting Minutes
Date: Tuesday, October 23, 2012
Time: 5:30 p.m.
Location: Sick Kids Hospital, Auditorium Room 1246
1.0 Welcome:
Louis Konstant, ETA Chapter President, welcomed all members and thanked them for attending at Sick Kids Hospital. The chapter executive was introduced. Louis also acknowledged Ryan Crase and Michael Merrick of Integra Life Sciences for accepting the invitation as the guest speakers and for sponsoring the snacks.
2.0 Presentation:
Ryan Crase and Michael Merrick of Integra Life Sciences discussed their company's surgical instrument options. Integra recently acquired Canada Micro Surgical and now includes the surgical instrument lines of Jarit, Miltex, Ruggles, Sugitta and many others. Because Integra is a large well established company, their instrument line prices are more competitive than before. Jarit instruments are manufactured both in Germany and USA. They have a quality system in place with serial numbers for tracking purposes. They also support repair service in partnership with Mobile Repairs.
Ryan showed us their web site and reviewed the searching and tray building functions. There were instruments available and passed around to show the attendees the quality and labels with tracking details.
Rohan asked if the instruments made in the USA had USA source metal as part of the process, as western countries tend to have greater carbon content. Michael and Ryan confirmed that the metals used are from USA.
Other questions and issues discussed were around handling and care, decontamination, inspections, audits, repairs and vendor support.
3.0 Annual Conference Update:
Pictures from the September conference were shared and the events summarized. Attendance was up slightly from last year. Overall the conference was a success.
4.0 Other Updates:
The new CSAO website look was shown and some features reviewed.
Eta chapter classroom course dates were reviewed as well as the distance education application dates and forms. CSAO continues to provide certification.
CSAO recently became a member organization of the World Forum Hospital Sterile Supply. As a member organization we can attend their annual meeting and have member voting rights. There is much to gain in being part of this group through exchange of information and networking. This year's meeting is in Japan and in 2013 in Turkey. The CSAO executive has considered hosting this world conference in upcoming years.
Attendees discussed the decreasing number of members in the chapter, province and also attending the annual conference. Discussion continued on options to increase the membership including CSAO executive visiting hospitals to encourage staff to join and management supporting their staff to join. The price of attending and cost to run conferences were also discussed.
Next meeting date was announced. It will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at 5:30 pm. The location will be the Mandarin Restaurant (Yonge & Eglinton) and will be the annual Christmas networking dinner. More details to be sent by e-mail in upcoming weeks.
5.0 50/50 Draw:
Winner of tonight's 50/50 draw was Miranda Golloshi ($28.00)
