Meeting Minutes

1.0 Welcome:

Louis Konstant, ETA Chapter President, welcomed all members and thanked them for attending the meeting at Sunnybrook Hospital. Louis also acknowledged Linda Rawlings and Karen Potter of SterilMed for accepting the invitation as the guest speakers and for sponsoring the snacks for the attending members.

2.0 Presentation:

Linda presented on two topics:

The first topic was about SteriTech Washing monitors. The different Medical Device Wash Check tests were described for washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, residual protein and lumens. Standards do call for testing of washer function, and Linda described the functions of these various tests and how the results may be documented.

The second topic was about the services provided by SterilMed. SterilMed offers reprocessing of single use devices used in health care. They currently work with many Canadian hospitals. They are FDA approved and have validated processes in place to safely reprocess otherwise single use devices used in health care. This opportunity provides cost savings for hospitals and elimination of risk. Health Canada and OHA involvement in recent position statements and recommendations were also discussed. Linda reviewed the history and current processes and standards in place with SterilMed services.

3.0 Annual Conference Update:

The September 2013 conference was discussed. The dates were confirmed including the addition of workshops the Sunday afternoon. The Theme of the conference was announced (Canadian MDRD Processes) and some of the presentation topics were shared. From last year's conference feedback, two issues were addressed that included more Canadian content and activities commencing over the weekend.

Two Constitutional Amendments submitted by our chapter were reviewed. This year's conference annual member meeting is an amendment year.

4.0 Other Updates:

The CSAO website is initiating the online payment process for membership, conference registration, educational registration and recertification. The executive is working with the web host and hopes to have this completed and active in the next month.

Next meeting date was tentatively announced as Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 5:30 p.m. The location will be Olympus Canada facilities in Richmond Hill. More details to be sent by email in upcoming weeks.

5.0 50/50 Draw:

Winner of tonight's 50/50 draw was Enriquita Tarayan ($12.00)
