On Jan. 23 & 24, 2020, the MDRAO had a booth at a Dental Conference for the first time. Candia Anderson, Director of Finance, and Megan Bozec, Lambda Vice President, manned the booth at the 38th Thunder Bay Dental Rendezvous. The 250 attendees included receptionists, dental assistants, hygienists, teachers, dentists, orthodontists, surgeons and one pony.
The theme for the Thursday night reception was Western, and a real pony was brought into the hotel foyer. She was very well received and behaved. While posing for a picture at the MDRAO booth, she actually flipped a page of the workbook with her nose!
It seemed most of the Thunder Bay and area dental community were unaware of the 2018 CSA standard concerning medical device reprocessing, although a couple of people had taken the MDRAO course in the classroom. The online course was news to all. The interest taken by the dentists was encouraging, as was the interest shown by Confederation College Instructor, Ruth Bushby, who would have bought a textbook but she won one in our free draw! The other winner was Dr. Mark Vukovich, an orthodontist in Thunder Bay. Both were very happy to receive their workbook and textbook.
At a total cost of approximately $1000, this conference was very economical to attend. (At most conferences, the booth space costs more than that.) And it fulfilled the MDRAO`s objective to promote education in medical device reprocessing. It not only made a whole community aware of the MDRAO but more importantly it informed most of it the importance of proper reprocessing.
