Toronto, Ontario’s Mount Sinai Hospital is undertaking a major renovation

Phase3a is one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects that Mount Sinai has undertaken. It involves renovating the hospital while we continue to provide services and work inside it. MDRD is a part of this project; our MDRD was in dire need of an upgrade.
We moved away from a system where we used paper checklists for our instrument sets and used no computers in our department to a fully technology advanced department.
When we designed the MDRD, we ensured that it not only met but exceeds standards in many ways. We have lots of cool technological advancements that no hospital in Canada has in areas like our Decontamination or Prep and Pack Zones.
We worked together with our Vendor Partners and designed a 3D Rendition of our future department. We leveraged the help of our E learning development teams and Operational Readiness teams to depict the workflows of the future department to start getting our staff ready for the change. This video can now be used for our department when orientating new employees. Something which we always wanted. Effective change management allows us to minimize a lot of risks associated when a hospital undertakes a large construction project as such.
We leveraged our tracking system to manage all of our paper logs that we document on a day to day basis so we can go fully electronic, which I believe we are one of the first departments to do so.
Our vision is to be Canada's leading centre of excellence in Medical Device Reprocessing.
We will be opening around Christmas 2020 and hope we can extend an invite to hospitals across Canada to come and tour Toronto’s Centre Of Excellence in Medical Device Reprocessing. We are a tertiary care teaching hospital and value the principal of sharing knowledge.
