CLFP is adding a new feature to its Food Processing Expo in 2017, a student "speed interviewing" area on the trade show floor. CLFP has heard from food processor members who are interested in connecting with some of the food science students from U. C. Davis, Fresno State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona and other universities. Informal meetings have been taking place in recent years, and several universities expressed an interest in setting up a more structured event. This event will be a great way for you to meet with students about employment or internship opportunities and for them to learn about your operation.
How will this work?
• A separate area will be set aside on the periphery of the Expo show floor where we will have tables set aside for the meetings.
• A separate area will be set aside on the periphery of the Expo show floor where we will have tables set aside for the meetings.
• Food processors, on a first-come, first-serve basis, will sign up for time periods when someone from their company will agree to be available to meet with students to discuss specific or general potential job opportunities or internships with their organization.
• Each session will last 20 minutes, with a ten-minute break between sessions. We will have four tables and have time for 10 sessions per table on February 8, and five sessions per table on February 9, for a total of up to 64 sessions available over two days.
• The food science students, on a first-come first-serve basis, will sign up to meet with the food processing company representatives. We expect that food science students from UC Davis, Fresno State, Cal Poly SLO, Chico State and Cal Poly Pomona may participate. If this is a success, in future years we could expand the event to include other schools and other majors (engineering, economics) and possibly community colleges.
• Students will be expected to come prepared with a resume and must notify in advance if they are unable to attend. Representatives from UC Davis and Fresno State will help with student sign-ups, monitor the event and keep things on schedule.
A Signupgenius survey form was distributed to all CLFP food processor members in December. If your company is interested in participating in, you must sign up by Friday, Jan. 6 by completing the form or contacting the CLFP office. Although we will have multiple tables available, please sign up for no more than three time periods so we can accommodate as many companies as possible.
CLFP hopes that your company will participate and help make this event a success. Please contact Rob Neenan in the CLFP office if you have any questions or suggestions.
