The California Energy Commission (CEC) is accepting applications for its second round of grants under the Food Production Incentive Program (FPIP). Applications are due February 11, 2019. The total amount available is $30 million. The program provides funds for commercially available and emerging energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies for food production facilities with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
CEC announced its first FPIP awards late last year, totaling $57 million. Four CLFP members were awarded funds for six projects totaling $12 million. These members were The Neil Jones Food Company, Olam Spices & Vegetable Ingredients, Pacific Coast Producers and Sun-Maid Growers of California.
CLFP was appointed in 2017 by then Governor Jerry Brown’s office to a Food Processing Industry Task Force to find ways to assist the industry in coping with compliance costs associated with the Cap-and-Trade Program and to provide guidance to CEC for FPIP.
