COVID-19 Continues to Affect Current Legislative Session

The COVID-19 pandemic is creating uncertainty again for the current California legislative session, as fewer hearings will be heard due to safety protocols that may affect the number of bills that ultimately will be heard in policy committees. Access to the California Capitol continues to be restricted and advocacy efforts will continue to be remote via online meetings with legislators and staff and call-in testimony for hearings
Despite these uncertain times, legislators continue to introduce thousands of new bills. February 18 was the deadline for the introduction of new bills. CLFP is in the initial stages of reviewing these new legislative proposals to determine potential impacts to the food processing industry in California.
Thus far there are several bills that CLFP will begin engaging on related to climate change, COVID-19, water, energy and labor, and recycling. As these proposals evolve, CLFP will take positions.
Policy committee hearings will begin in March and run through early May.
