More than 30 food processors attended CLFP/PG&E workshops on energy efficiency—one held in Stockton, Calif., on Oct. 9 and one in Clovis, Calif., on Oct. 29. The workshops focused on available incentive programs, financing options for energy projects, new technologies, workforce training programs and third-party services. Don Sturtevant, the director of energy for the J.R. Simplot Company, was the keynote speaker at the seminars and described the impressive goals Simplot has attained in its "25 percent in 10 years" energy intensity reduction program. The program included making major reductions in energy usage in the majority of its processing plants and resulted in $30 million in savings in the first five years of the program. PG&E representatives also shared information about their energy efficiency services, self-generation and solar incentives and financing options for food processors, which include zero percent loan options.
