Burt Fleischer of the California-based Hilmar Cheese Company, was elected the 2016-17 chair of the California League of Food Processors (CLFP) at its annual board of directors meeting April 21 in San Francisco, Calif.
 
Being prepared, serving as a credible source of information and reacting quickly are key factors in successfully handling a food crisis situation, according to J. Van Der Stoep of Sound Counsel Communications during remarks at the California League of Food Processors (CLFP) recent annual board of directors meeting.

The Diane M. Barrett Fruit and Vegetable Faculty Fellowship Fund in the Department of Food Science and Technology at UC Davis was established to honor Cooperative Extension Specialist Dr. Diane Barrett for her many contributions to the fruit and vegetable industries of California. The goal of this fellowship is to ensure that UC Davis continues to meet the research and educational needs of the members of the California fruit and vegetable processing industry. The first fellowship recipient will be announced this week.

The California League of Food Processors (CLFP) is strongly opposed to Senate Bill 1317 by Senator Wolk that recently passed the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee. This measure relates to conditional use permits and groundwater extraction facilities. More specifically, SB 1317 would require a city or county overlying a basin designated as a high or medium priority basin to establish a process for issuing conditional use permits for the development of a groundwater extraction facility in order to prevent that facility from contributing to or creating an "undesirable result."
