CLFP’s 21st Annual Supplier Host Council (SHC) Golf Tournament will be held Monday, October 23, at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. Registration for this popular annual event opens on August 14, and the registration deadline is October 5.
 
 
   
CLFP is now accepting applications for its scholarship program for the 2017-18 academic year. The application deadline is September 22. Multiple scholarships are available for CLFP food processing and Supplier Host Council member employees and their dependents
 
 
   
Public Affairs and Political Strategist Steve Schmidt will be the keynote speaker at CLFP’s Food Processing Expo 2018 on February 21 in Sacramento. Schmidt is currently vice chairman of public affairs at Edelman and has been described by the national media as a "damage control master." Earlier in his career, Schmidt served as a top strategist to President George W. Bush's 2004 re-election campaign. Following the President’s successful re-election, Schmidt joined the Bush administration as deputy assistant to the President and counselor to the Vice President.

Graduate students in the UC Davis Department of Food Science & Technology (FST) are hosting their first-ever fundraising dinner called "Cooking Class" at the Robert Mondavi Institute on Saturday, August 26.
 
UC Davis will conduct an Acidified Foods Manufacturing School course for food processors on September 18. The course is a blended version of the traditional in-person Better Process Control School.

After months of negotiations and intense support from Governor Jerry Brown, on July 17 California extended its Cap-and-Trade program with two-thirds super majority support in both chambers of the California Legislature. AB 398 reauthorizes the continuation of the program but with several significant changes. The industry’s primary focus was cost containment and those issues were addressed in the legislation.
 
The California Legislature began its summer break on July 21 and will reconvene August 21. The next significant deadline for legislation is September 1, the date by which fiscal committees must send the bills along for consideration by the entire Senate or Assembly. Several CLFP opposed bills remained active when the California Legislature began its summer recess.

Regulatory Insights
Cal-OSHA is developing new regulations regarding heat stress for indoor workers and CLFP is actively participating in that proceeding.
