California Governor Jerry Brown has formed a Food Processing Industry Task Force to find ways to assist the industry in coping with the compliance costs associated with the state's greenhouse gas Cap-and-Trade program. The Governor seems to recognize that buying carbon allowances and paying higher energy costs may have a negative long-term effect on the global competitive position of many food processors.

CLFP is now accepting applications for its scholarship program for the 2017-18 academic year. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, September 22.

Attendee registration for CLFP’s Food Processing Expo 2018 will open on Friday, September 29. The Expo will be held February 21-22 at the Sacramento Convention Center and is a must attend event for California’s food processing industry. The Expo features an expansive trade show floor and a wide variety of workshops addressing current industry issues.

CLFP's 21st Annual Supplier Host Council (SHC) Golf Tournament will be held Monday, October 23, at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. The event is open to CLFP SHC and food processor members. Proceeds from the tournament are used to support CLFP’s Scholarship Program.

CLFP will hold its Fall Board of Directors Meeting October 19-20 at the Andaz Napa Hotel in Napa, CA.

To empower women in the industry, the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA) has created the FPSA Women's Council, which will launch at its September conference, PROCESS EXPO. Though still in its beginning stages, the council aims to provide networking and education opportunities for industry women, especially through events and webinars.
