Registration is now open for CLFP’s 24th Annual Supplier Host Council Golf Tournament, which raises funds for CLFP’s Scholarship Program. The tournament will be held Monday, October 19, at the Brookside Golf and Country Club in Stockton. Due to COVID-19, the tournament will be limited to 80 players, contingent upon cart assignments, and safety protocols will be in place. The registration deadline is Monday, October 5.
 
 
   
CLFP is currently accepting applications for the 2020-21 Member Company Scholarship program. CLFP offers a Scholarship Program to full-time employees and their dependents of CLFP Processor and Supplier Host Council Member companies. The application deadline is Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
 
 
   
Register now to reserve premium exhibitor booth space at Food Processing Expo 2021, which will return to Sacramento and be held February 9 & 10 at the newly renovated Sacramento Convention Center. Attendee registration will open this fall.
 
 
   
CLFP is developing a series of industry specific webinars on timely topics. The webinars will be held in conjunction with CLFP members and industry organizations beginning in September. Detailed information will be distributed on how to register.

From April to August 2020, the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI), in partnership with North Carolina State University (NC State) researchers, conducted a scientific literature review to understand the nature of survival and persistence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in foods and on food contact surfaces and food packaging materials, and the potential for foodborne transmission. Their work confirms that, although there is a slight chance for virus contamination, there is no evidence for the spread of SARS-CoV-2 through consumption of food or in association with food packaging, and no known cases of foodborne COVID-19.
 
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have developed a checklist for human and animal food manufacturers to consider when continuing, resuming or reevaluating operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The checklist is useful for persons growing, harvesting, packing, manufacturing, processing or holding human and animal food regulated by FDA. 
 
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the selection of recipients for about $4.1 million in grants and cooperative agreements through its new Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production. These are the first-ever recipients of these grants and cooperative agreements. Among them is The Center for Land Based Learning, California (Yolo County), which will produce a comprehensive urban agriculture assessment of West Sacramento.

The California Legislature is in the final full week of its current legislative session, and there are several high-priority bills in which CLFP is engaged, including employee leave, packaging recycling and workers compensation for COVID-19 cases. Once the Legislature adjourns on August 31, Governor Gavin Newsom has until October 1 to sign or veto legislation sent to his desk.
