Last month Pacific Coast Producers (PCP) hosted Congressman Josh Harder (D – Turlock) at Martini Ranch. Located in Escalon, CA, Peter Martini’s operation supplies peaches to PCP. CLFP staff along with representatives from the Can Manufacturing Institute discussed issues facing the food processing industry throughout the state. Highlighting issues such as increased tariffs on tin cans, water and SGMA concerns, and zero-emission transportation hurdles. The Congressman, born and raised in the central valley, is keenly aware of the difficulties facing agriculture and food production and is supportive of our efforts. CLFP hopes to make a trip to Washington D.C. in the future to continue these important conversations with other national representatives. We’d like to thank PCP for organizing this visit, and encourage other members to reach out to CLFP staff if they are interested in hosting their local, or federal, representatives.

Capitol News
On July 1, Governor Gavin Newsom signed the groundbreaking legislation that would provide significant reform to California Private Attorneys’ General Act – also known as PAGA – and offer much-needed relief to employers. The bill, AB 2288 by Assemblymember Kalra (D – San Jose), will remove limitations on the types of employees who could bring claims, give employers a better chance to cure mistakes, reduce possible penalties, and boost procedural mechanisms that would reduce claims in court.
