CLFP is part of an industry coalition that is challenging several provisions of U.S. EPA regulations regarding the use of rodenticides at commercial facilities. Of specific concern to CLFP is a new requirement that rodenticide bait stations must be used within 50 feet of buildings. EPA added this provision out of concern that pets or wild animals in the vicinity may ingest rats that have consumed the poison and keeping the bait stations in close proximity to buildings may limit that risk. CLFP contacted EPA to oppose this new standard for two reasons.

The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) formed the Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional Task Force to review water conservation efforts in these sectors and to make recommendations to the Legislature regarding the potential for reduced water use by 2020. Food processing is one of several sectors that are of specific interest to the task force and DWR. Due to the limited amount of data available on this topic some regulators and legislators seem to believe that industrial water consumption could be reduced by 20 percent by 2020 without imposing undue burden on businesses.

Qualified students need to have their applications postmarked by Friday, Sept. 30, 2011. Scholarships are open to all food processor members' full-time or full-time seasonal employees and their dependents, and all Supplier Host Council members' full-time employees and their dependents.
