Grow, Learn, Connect is the theme of Food Processing Expo 2019 to be held February 12-13 at the Sacramento Convention Center. Participation in the Expo, the largest trade show of its kind in the state, has been growing steadily, increasing by some 20 percent in just the last few years. In 2018, the Expo exceeded 2,700 in attendees and featured 65 new exhibitors.

The CLFP 2019 Washington, D.C., Fly-In will be held March 11-13. This event provides an opportunity for CLFP members to meet and share concerns with congressional members and government agencies. The Fly-In will once again be coordinated with the American Fruit and Vegetable Processors and Growers Coalition. Three Central Valley agricultural water coalitions have signed a settlement agreement with the California State Water Resources Control Board to install drinking water kiosks to ensure safe drinking water for individuals who may be impacted by nitrate contamination from nearby drinking water wells.

Plenty of rainfall through the end of last year and during January has boosted California’s water supplies to 105 percent of normal, painting a completely different picture from a year ago. January’s deluge helped push the statewide water supply up from 68 percent just a few weeks ago. Nearly all major reservoirs are at or above normal levels for this time of year.

The California Legislature reconvened on January 7. Many new bills are currently being introduced with a bill introduction deadline of February 22. CLFP is busy analyzing these new legislative proposals and determining their impact on the state's food processing industry. Legislative policy committees will begin hearing bills in April.
