Food Processsing Expo 2020 will be held in Santa Clara, February 12-13. Early bird pricing for Expo 2020 attendees ends on December 20, while Expo booth registration is ongoing. CLFP members receive a discount for both attendee and booth registration. The Expo is California's largest food processing trade show.

CLFP will host a webinar on December 13 in conjunction with Fisher Phillips about the “Impact of AB 5 on Independent Contractor Status in California: What You Need to Know.” The California Supreme Court’s 2018 decision on Dynamex dramatically changed the test for determining whether an individual is an employee or an independent contractor.

The California Energy Commission has extended the deadlines for submitting an application for Food Production Investment Program (FPIP) funding. FPIP works to accelerate the adoption of advanced energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies at California food processing plants. Several CLFP processor members have already received funds for projects through FPIP.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced that all businesses, including 40 food processors, covered by the state’s cap-and-trade program have fully met their obligations for compliance in 2018 – achieving a 100 percent compliance rate.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing to establish a program for the testing of food by accredited laboratories as required by the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The laboratory accreditation program, once established, will require testing of human and animal food in certain circumstances by accredited laboratories.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that it does not intend to take enforcement actions on new nutrition labeling requirements for the first six months following the January 1, 2020, compliance date for businesses with more than $10 million in annual food sales.
