CLFP held a Food Labeling Law webinar on Dec. 9, in partnership with Arnold & Porter, which was its last in a series of five webinars held during recent months. CLFP partnered with members and allied industry organizations to conduct the webinars, which focused on timely industry topics. Additional webinars are being planned for 2021.

On March 19, 2020, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-33-20. This order directed all California residents to follow current state public health directives to stay home, except as needed to maintain the continuity of operations of essential critical infrastructure sectors and other sectors designated by the State Public Health Officer. As part of this order, the State Public Health Officer designated the food and agricultural sector as an essential critical infrastructure needed to help state, local, tribal and industry partners with the continuity of functions critical to public health and safety, as well as economic and national security.

UC Davis Food Science & Technology's Dr. Erin DiCaprio, Assistant Cooperative Extension Specialist in Community Food Safety, has been awarded a National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) grant to assist small-scale fruit and vegetable processors to be in compliance with food safety regulations such as the Food Safety Modernization Act.

The California Legislature convened on Monday, Dec. 7, to swear in the Assembly and Senate members for the 2021-22 legislative session. Due to the pandemic, most of the State Assembly’s 80 members took their oaths of office at individual tables spaced six feet apart in the Sacramento Kings basketball arena, while most of the 40 state senators took theirs in the Capitol building. The remaining legislators were sworn in remotely.
