Home cooking during the pandemic fueled record growth in organic sales last year, according to the Organic Trade Association’s (OTA) 2021 Organic Industry Survey released today. Organic food sales (which makes up 91.2% of all organic sales) jumped 12.8%, comprising almost 6% of total food sales. Combined, organic food and non-food products exceeded $60 billion for the first time.

The California State Board of Food and Agriculture will be discussing recent drought actions and hear about proposed programs to assist farmers and ranchers. Legislative policy committee hearings are in full swing at the California Capitol. CLFP is tracking over 175 bills and has taken a position on nearly 50 bills that impact the food processing industry. All lobbying efforts are remote due to the pandemic. The deadline to pass bills out of each house is May 21, 2021. There are several priority issues that CLFP is actively engaging on or closely monitoring.
